Zion National Park is a special place. In fact, it’s “specialness” has become something of a cliché. But when you’re in the Court of the Patriarchs just after dawn, the countless images and words you’ve seen and heard about the place dissolve. It’s just you and the natural wonder of the moment.

The scale of the place, the natural architecture of the peaks, and the way the canyon dramatically shapes the light from moment to moment give the Court a distinct feel, even within the broader park. It reminded me of standing in the doorway of a centuries-old cathedral.
