Frequently Asked Questions

how are your prints made?

All prints 17” x 22” and smaller are made by me, by hand, with a Canon ProGraf Pro-1000 printer with Canon pigment-based inks. Papers vary by series and edition. Larger prints are made to order by one of the best labs in the United States and are all inspected and signed by me before being shipped.

how big are the actual images on the paper?

Print sizes noted are the sizes of the papers on which the prints are made. All prints have a white border around the image itself. The 8.5” x 11” prints have a 6” x 9” image area, the 13” x 19” prints have a 10” x 15” image area, and the 17” x 22” prints have a 13” x 19.5” image area. If you would like a particular combination of print size and paper size that’s not on offer, you can request that here.

How do you handle editions?

We offer two kinds of editions:

Open Editions are individually numbered by hand but is not limited to a finite quantity. Prints are numbered in the order in which they are printed and I keep a record of when prints are made and where they are sent, so you can always authenticate your print by contacting me. These prints will be available on a rotating basis, so some editions might eventually “close.”

Closed Editions are individually numbered by hand and limited to a finite quantity. Typically this will be a pre-determined quantity (5, 10, or 12), though sometimes the edition size will be bound by time, not quantity (a print might be available for one week only, for example). Note, each edition is specific to the image, printing method, paper stock, and size. For example, if I offer up an edition of 10 prints of a particular photograph printed with pigment inks on Moab Baryta Rag 305g paper at 13” x 19”, that combination will never be available again.

what is a certificates of authenticity?

A Certificate of Authenticity (or CoA) is a unique document included with every print. It contains general information such as the name of the image and the year the picture was made, as well as information specific to each unique print, such as the date it was printed, the edition number, etc. These are all signed by me and confirm that you have a genuine print from the studio. They are printed in-house using archival materials, so they will last as long as the prints themselves.

Fun fact: There is a unique six-digit number in the bottom left corner of each CoA. This is randomly generated and identifies the print in the master studio database. Nobody other than the studio and the holder of the CoA knows this number. It ensures that no counterfeit prints or CoAs can be issued.

what if i want to order a print of a photograph that is not currently available?

Please reach out! You can contact me right here and I am always happy to work with collectors directly who want a special print. My goal is to offer only a small selection of prints here at any given time, so you will see new things pretty frequently.

When will my print ship?

In most cases, prints will ship within 48 hours of being ordered. If it is going to be more than three or four days, you will receive an email with an updated shipping estimate.

How do you ship prints?

Smaller prints are shipped flat, wrapped in cellophane and in rigid envelopes to prevent folding and creasing. Larger prints are rolled and shipped in tubes. To flatten out a print, rest it under some books for 24-48 hours and you should be good to go.

Domestic orders are shipped via USPS Priority for a flat $10 charge. International orders are shipped via DHL Express for a flat $50 charge. I will always try my best to get your print to you as quickly, safely, and cost-efficiently as possible.

Are there customs charges / import duties for international orders?

This will vary by country, so there isn’t a single, one-size-fits-all answer here. All shipments will be marked in accordance with legal guidelines, so please take that into account for all orders shipped outside the United States.
